The UK’s Office for Product Safety and StandardsThe UK government office responsible for product safety and standards.UK retailers and importers must act on unsafe products; OPSS and local authorities oversee enforcement. published a SHEIN recall for one children’s sensory toy on September 30, 2026. Sand inside the blocks may contain a small quantity of asbestos. The recall covers SHEIN product code (Stock Keeping ColorA SHEIN product code for the main sales variant, usually a color or style.SHEIN generates the platform code; buyers and sellers use it to match the exact product named in a recall.) sk26062823339701832428. If that code matches your order or stock, stop using or selling the toy and follow the official return or disposal instructions.

This is not a warning about every sensory block or every toy sold on SHEIN.

How do I know whether my product is affected?

Start with the product code. A similar photo, shape or listing title is not enough.

Check the code in your SHEIN order record, invoice or inventory data. Without a match, this notice does not identify your product.

What should I do if the code matches?

  • Stop using or selling the toy. Keep it away from children. If it is undamaged, leave it intact.
  • If the toy is undamaged, contain it. OPSS says to place it in a heavy-duty plastic bag, double-tape the bag, label it clearly and store it securely away from children.
  • If sand is exposed, avoid raising dust. OPSS says to wear gloves and a mask, clean the area with wet cloths, and double-bag the sand, gloves, mask and cloths. Keep other people away until the area has been cleaned.
  • Follow the seller’s return route. SHEIN has contacted affected customers. Use its recall instructions for return and refund. If return is not possible, ask your local authority how to dispose of asbestos safely.

If you hold business inventory, ask a specialist waste contractor how to classify, package, store and dispose of it. OPSS also advises businesses to seek qualified dangerous-goods advice before transporting recalled products containing asbestos.

What should I check before sourcing another sand-filled toy?

A negative test is only part of the evidence. OPSS says sampling limits mean testing alone cannot prove that every unit is free from asbestos.

  • Trace the sand. Ask where the raw material came from and what controls apply before it enters production.
  • Ask what happens during manufacturing. The supplier should be able to explain storage, separation and contamination controls for the sand.
  • Request evidence for the exact product. Keep the supplier’s assurance, relevant test records and the product code together. A report for another toy or another material source does not cover your order.

For products sold in the UK, the business placing the toy on the market is responsible for making sure it is safe. If the supply chain cannot show that a sand-filled toy is free from asbestos, OPSS says it should not be supplied.

What does the recall not say?

The notice does not say that every sensory block, every sand-filled toy or every product sold on SHEIN contains asbestos. It identifies one product code and describes the sand as possibly contaminated with a small quantity.

The official risk level is listed as “not provided.” Chaperon’s urgency score reflects the need to follow an active recall; it is not a government risk rating. For health questions or disposal instructions beyond the published steps, use the contacts in the OPSS guidance rather than handling the material on your own.
